Frequently Asked Questions
What Is Closet?
We are a semi-annual queer magazine for underrepresented creatives with marginalized racial, gender, class and sexuality identities at Middlebury College. Our content is produced by our in-house staff and though submissions by students.
What is this project about?
The goal of this magazine is to cultivate the intersection between creativity and critique for students to present their culture and the issues important to them in unique ways. We believe creating a queer culture magazine on the Middlebury College campus is an important step in promoting visibility, community and education around marginalized identities. By fostering a greater sense of understanding and support, we can work towards creating a more inclusive and equitable world for all.
Where can I read Closet?
We will be publishing our first Spring 2023 issue digitally. You will be able to read it here on our website's publications page.
How can my work be included?
You can submit a proposal for your work to be included in our publication when we announce our open calls. Student proposals must take into account the theme we announce for our upcoming issue and can be anything from poetry, artwork, and fictional writing, to essays or opinion pieces. We want to give the rights to create back to students' hands. We will not limit what kinds of work will be published. We are welcome to all creativity and ideas!
How can I submit my work to be published?
You can submit your work as a proposal via our google form. Your proposal will be reviewed by the Closet Magazine board for publishing and we will work with you with whatever you need to make your vision happen if your work is chosen!
